Play an essential role in the rehabilitation of koalas at the Pottsville Koala Rehabilitation Centre and join our National Trust- Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital Volunteer Program. Koalas often spend up to 3 months in treatment before being successfully released. Join our Wildlife Hospital volunteer program to assist specialised Wildlife Veterinary nurses in tasks necessary for the successful release of koalas back into the wild in NSWWhat are the tasks?Setting up, cleaning and maintaining outdoor enclosures.Assisting with the feeding of koalas.Communicating patient observations with the veterinary nurse.Collaborating and recording data as directed by the nurseAssisting with general grounds maintenance.Selection Criteria:Able to attend the Pottsville site on a weekly basis.Physically capable of carrying loads up to 10kg and standing for long periods of time.Able to work outdoors in all weathers.Able to work well with others and unsupervised.Flexible with shift times depending on the number of patients in care.Able to source own transport to and from the siteDaily shift vacancy is- 11am – 4pm (Flexible to change}To be eligible you must be able to meet the following criteria:Be aged over 18 yearsYou must be able to commit to 1 shift a week over a minimum 6-month period. Short notice of shift change could occur due to rehab needsAble to complete 3 trial shifts at our offsite Pottsville Koala Rehabilitation FacilityAccess to email is essential and agreeing to all Volunteering terms and conditions. volunteering terms.No allergies to animals, food (including nuts) or dust.After completion of trial shifts, successful candidates will be invited to join the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital Volunteer Program where a registration fee of $45 will be required. This fee covers the cost of required uniform and badge. Joining this program will also provide other benefits such as membership of National Trust Australia (QLD).Has ability to remain calm in relation to working with injured wildlife, some of which may have sustained significant trauma or recovering from sicknessNote: Hospital staff are not authorised to assist volunteers with TAFE assignments or sign off competencies for TAFE studies.
