As one of Queensland’s earliest nature-based tourist destinations, the Sanctuary is a physical embodiment of everything the NTAQ represents: to protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State.As we continue to welcome visitors to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and share our conversation story - we have an opportunity for a passionate, energetic and experienced casual Gum Cutter / Wildlife Keeper to support our Wildlife department. About the RoleReporting to the Life Sciences Manager, our passionate Gum Cutter / Wildlife Keeper will be an enthusiastic, capable and can work safely in a fast-paced environment.   As our passionate and hands-on Gum Cutter / Wildlife Keeper you will have the responsibility of working offsite at any of our four plantations to cut and collect high quality fodder to provide fresh feed daily for our collection of herbivorous mammals which include our koalas and tree kangaroos.This role will require working closely with Wildlife Keepers to learn and select appropriate food to ensure best available quality fodder is selected.  You will work outdoors in a variety of locations and in all sorts of weather.  You will display excellent park knowledge to drive the visitor experience and share our conservation stories.  About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have a Certificate III Captive Animal Management.  In addition, you must be able to deliver high levels of customer service in an energetic, friendly, and professional manner within a busy team environment.  Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:Hold a Certificate 3 in Captive AnimalsMinimum of 3 years’ experience in Gum cuttingWildlife handling, husbandry skills and previous experience in this area is highly desirable.Ability to operate a Chainsaw in an efficient and safe manner is highly desirable.Excellent customer service skills and able to work with a variety of people.Energetic and friendly personality and confidence with domestic and international visitorsBe prepared to work in an outdoor environment, in all weathers, in a role that requires substantial walking in a workplace that contains animals including birds and reptiles.Ability to carry / support up to 10kg for a prolonged period.Hold a current manual Driver’s licence and current First Aid qualifications is highly desirable. What we can offerJust as our charter is to protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State – we also are committed to ensuring our Team Members are protected, taken care of and of course celebrated!  We offer current and future team members:NTAQ Team Member Card offering unlimited entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and other SEQ sites and generous retail & food & beverage discounts.Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Family & Friends Passes   AUD Currumbin 4223

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Gum cutting
  • Wildlife handling, husbandry skills and previous experience in this area is highly desirable.
